The musical CHESS is set in the 1980's amid the intrigue of the cold war and the emerging popularity of World Chess competitions. However, this game is all about love and the romantic triangle that ensues between a woman and two chess masters - one whom she manages and one with whom she falls in love. Espionage, deceit and the intricacies of love ensue all captured timelessly by an amazing score. With lyrics by Tim Rice and music from ABBA's Benny Andersson & Björn Ulvaeus, CHESS has attained not only box office success but also chart topping hits with "One Night in Bangkok" and "I Know Him So Well".

The Glasnevin Musical Society is delighted to welcome the "Master of Musicals", Peter Corry to CHESS. Peter won international acclaim for his role as 'Javert' in Les Misérables in London, and recently won all our hearts with his emotive performance at the sad occasion of the funeral of George Best.

Brenda Brooks, a recent addition to the cast of Fair City as 'Olga', has already amassed an extensive career on stage and in musical theatre. Much in demand as a performer, Kenneth O'Regan completes the triangle playing the American master 'Freddie'. A supporting cast that comprises a number of AIMS award-winners will more than ably complement our leading trio, together with the renowned Chorus of The Glasnevin Musical Society.

Naturally, a phenomenal cast requires an equally phenomenal production team. Director Noel McDonough has achieved a career in direction that spans numerous National Awards for musical theatre and recordings for RTÉ Television. Music Director Colman Pearce brings to the fore his international acclaim as conductor and composer. Choreographer Marina Kealy and Chorus Director Jay Shanahan lend their exceptional talents, having both been involved in the acclaimed GMS production of The Merry Widow in the National Concert Hall.

The final move, an extensive 23-piece orchestra, will ensure that The Glasnevin Musical Society achieves checkmate! with their exciting production of CHESS.
